Planning an engagement session in Los Angeles can feel overwhelming. There are endless locations, changing light, traffic, parking, and the question every couple asks: “What will actually look like us?” My approach is to simplify those decisions before the camera ever comes out.
For this Los Angeles engagement session, we created two very different visual experiences. We began at LACMA’s Urban Light, where the repeating white lampposts gave us a bright, graphic backdrop that let her red gown become the focus. From there, we moved into Downtown Los Angeles, using the clean architecture, reflective surfaces, city streets, and evening skyline around the Walt Disney Concert Hall area for a more dramatic, editorial feeling.
The solution is not choosing the most locations. It is choosing locations that give you variety without wasting your session traveling across the city. By planning the order around the light and keeping the route intentional, couples can enjoy the experience instead of watching the clock.
I also guide each session so you never have to arrive knowing how to pose. We begin with simple movement and natural interaction, then build toward more polished portraits as you become comfortable. A hand kiss, a quiet look, the movement of a dress, or a walk across the street can create photographs that feel elevated without becoming stiff.
Experience matters most when conditions change. Harsh afternoon sun, deep shadows, crowds, and fading daylight are not problems to avoid; they are opportunities to create different photographs when you know how to use them.
